Abstract

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is an infection characterized by bacteria growing and multiplying in the urinary tract in excess of normal amounts. According to the National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse (NKUDIC), UTI is the second highest infectious disease after respiratory infections in 2023 and is reported to account for 8.3 million cases per year. Inappropriate use of antibiotics can result in missed therapy and the emergence of resistance. This study aims to determine the description of antibiotic use in UTI patients at the Cut Meutia Regional Hospital in North Aceh based on the Gyssens method including the right indication, the right patient, the right drug and the right dose. This research uses a non-experimental method of collecting data retrospectively with a total sampling technique. The inclusion criteria in this study were all patients with urinary tract infections who were hospitalized and received antibiotic therapy and medical records. The results showed that the incidence of UTI was highest in women at 85.7%, while for men it was 14.3%. The most common type of antibiotic drug for UTI therapy was ceftriaxone 51.4%, followed by the antibiotic ciprofloxacin 28.6%, and cefotaxime 14.3%. Then, based on the parameters of the Gyssens method, the number of patients classified as rational antibiotic treatment was 54.3% and 45.8% irrational. The conclusion of this study shows that the most widely used antibiotic for UTI therapy is ceftriaxone.
