Abstract

Type 2 DM represents a persistent metabolic disorder whose management extends over an extended period and relies, among other aspects, on consistent medication use. Failure to follow the prescribed medication regimen may compromise glycemic regulation and consequently elevate the likelihood of diabetes-related complications. This study sought to examine whether medication-taking consistency was associated with random blood glucose levels among individuals with type 2 DM receiving care at the Tuntang UPTD. A quantitative correlational approach employing a cross-sectional design was adopted. The investigation involved 70 participants recruited through purposive sampling. Medication adherence was assessed with the 8-item MMAS-8, whereas random blood glucose was determined through glucometer examination. The association between the variables was statistically examined using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test at a significance threshold of α = 0.05. The distribution of medication adherence comprised 7 participants in the low category, 32 participants in the moderate category, and 31 participants in the high category. Random blood glucose was classified as controlled among 69 participants, while 1 participant was categorized as uncontrolled. Pearson correlation analysis yielded r = -0.727 and p = 0.001, demonstrating a statistically meaningful association characterized by strong magnitude and an inverse direction between medication adherence and random blood glucose. Thus, greater consistency in medication use corresponded with lower random blood glucose levels. In summary, medication adherence was significantly associated with random blood glucose levels among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated at the Tuntang UPTD.
