Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is the practice of providing only breast milk to infants from birth until six months of age without the addition of any other food or beverages. According to the Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia No. 33 of 2012 concerning Exclusive Breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding is defined as providing breast milk exclusively to infants for the first six months of life without supplementing or replacing it with other foods or drinks, except for medicines, vitamins, and minerals. One of the interventions that can stimulate the secretion of prolactin and oxytocin hormones in postpartum mothers is the Marmet technique. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Marmet technique on breast milk flow. This study employed an experimental design using a pretest–posttest approach with a total sampling technique. A total of 30 respondents participated in the study. The research instruments consisted of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Marmet technique and an observation checklist. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed that the Marmet technique had a significant effect on improving breast milk flow among postpartum mothers at Zainal Umar Sidiki Hospital, North Gorontalo, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). It is recommended that the Marmet technique be implemented as an effective intervention to facilitate breast milk flow in postpartum mothers, as it stimulates the release of prolactin and oxytocin hormones, thereby promoting relaxation and enhancing breast milk production.
