Abstract

This study examines the spatial organization and programming of two creative hubs in Indonesia: Jakarta Creative Hub and Bandung Creative Hub). The research aims to analyze how spatial design supports creative activities and fosters collaboration among creative practitioners. Both hubs employ a grid-based spatial organization, categorizing spaces by specific functions such as coworking, workshops, and public zones. While Jakarta Creative Hub emphasizes zones for collaboration, production, and training, Bandung Creative Hub integrates spaces for art exhibitions, multimedia production, and educational activities. This study highlights the importance of balancing specific and flexible spaces, with specialized areas like the Fashion Lab and Woodworking Area facilitating targeted activities, and coworking spaces and exhibition areas providing adaptability for various events. The findings demonstrate that the grid-based spatial design of both hubs enhances efficiency and allows structured arrangements to meet diverse needs, ultimately fostering creativity and collaboration within the creative ecosystem. Abstract

This research examines the architectural typology of Gedung Kesenian Jakarta (GKJ), or Jakarta Arts Building, which stands as a significant remnant of classical Dutch colonial architecture. The study aims to identify the characteristics of the building's architectural design and investigate changes in the function of spaces and building elements before and after the 1987 renovation. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research employs a combination of data collection techniques, including observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The observation criteria focus on the buildings elements and their composition in relation to its function as the theatre of art performances. The findings indicate that the authenticity of Gedung Kesenian Jakarta has been largely preserved. However, the research identifies several differences between the pre-and post-restoration periods. Notable changes include the addition of new spaces and the reconstruction of certain building elements. Despite these alterations, the additions respect the original architectural form and character, maintaining the buildings historical integrity while maximizing the needs of theatre activities and accommodating the significance of the local ornaments. Overall, this study highlights the ongoing relevance of GKJ as both an architectural and cultural heritage site, reflecting Jakartas role in the development of art and architecture since the Dutch colonial era. Keywords: Art Building, Classical Architecture, Typology, Colonial

Abstract

This study investigates the architectural atmosphere of the Jusuf Kalla Library, Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) emphasizing the design elements that contribute to shaping its spatial experience. The study employs a descriptive qualitative methodology, utilizing site writing method and direct observation as the primary data collection methods. The findings highlight several key architectural elements that collaboratively create an environment conducive to focused learning. These elements include material selection, color schemes, lighting design, spatial configuration, proportions, and sensory factors such as scent, sound, and air quality. The interplay of these elements establishes a tranquil and comfortable atmosphere that supports individual learning and concentration. The analysis indicates that the spatial design of the Jusuf Kalla Library is more oriented toward individual study spaces rather than group learning areas. This design choice intensifies the library's serene, contemplative atmosphere, which is particularly conducive to solitary learning. The architectural design of the Jusuf Kalla Library, through its careful attention to sensory and spatial elements, cultivates an environment that enhances the user experience by fostering a focused, serene, and intellectually stimulating setting. Keywords: Library Atmosphere, Architectural Deisgn, Sensory Experience, Ambience, Learning Space
