Abstract

Maternal nutritional status is an important factor in supporting maternal health and fetal growth because it determines the fulfillment of energy, protein, vitamin, and mineral requirements during pregnancy. Local food-based nutrition education is an applicable approach because it aligns with community dietary habits, is more affordable, and can be implemented in daily life. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of nutrition education using local Manado food sources, particularly fish, vegetables, and tubers, in improving the nutritional status of pregnant women at UPTD Puskesmas Nuangan. The study used a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involving 30 pregnant women as respondents. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive analysis, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the paired sample t-test. The results showed that before the intervention, 53.3% of respondents had poor nutritional status with a mean pretest score of 61.87±6.92. After receiving education, the proportion of respondents with good nutritional status increased to 80.0%, with a mean posttest score of 74.43±6.35. The paired t-test showed a significant difference (t=14.19; p<0.001). Local food-based nutrition education effectively improved the nutritional status of pregnant women and supports the implementation of contextual nutrition education in routine antenatal care services.
