Abstract

Abstract

Feeding difficulties in toddlers represent a multidimensional issue, as they are influenced not only by appetite but also by parenting styles, maternal knowledge, eating habits, and food presentation methods. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with the nutritional status of toddlers in the working area of the Bicoli Inpatient Community Health Center (Puskesmas), East Halmahera Regency. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 30 toddlers. Nutritional status served as the dependent variable, while parenting styles, maternal knowledge, eating habits, and food presentation were the independent variables. Data analysis included univariate analysis, bivariate analysis (using the chi-square test and odds ratio calculation), and multivariate analysis (using logistic regression). The results showed that 60.0% of the toddlers had good nutritional status, while 40.0 suffered from undernutrition. Parenting styles were significantly associated with nutritional status (p<0.001; OR=40.00), followed by maternal knowledge (p=0.001; OR=25.00), eating habits (p=0.003; OR=17.50), and food presentation (p=0.002; OR=15.00). Multivariate analysis revealed that parenting style was the most dominant factor (Exp(B)=24.88), and the model explained 73.4 of the variation in nutritional status. These findings underscore that improving the nutritional status of toddlers with feeding difficulties requires a focus on strengthening responsive parenting, enhancing maternal knowledge, establishing regular eating habits, and diversifying food presentation at the family level.

Abstract

Back pain is one of the most common discomforts experienced by pregnant women in the third trimester, potentially reducing mobility, sleep quality, and overall comfort during pregnancy. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Child's Pose (*Balasana*) on reducing back pain in third-trimester pregnant women at South Bolaang Mongondow Regional General Hospital (RSUD). A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, based on data from 20 pregnant women. Pain levels were measured using the Numeric Rating Scale before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The majority of respondents were aged 25–29 years (40.0%), had a junior high school education (55.0%), were housewives (95.0%), and were in the 30–33 week gestational age range (65.0%). The mean pain score decreased from 4.15 ± 1.57 to 2.20 ± 1.40, representing a mean reduction of 1.95 points. Nineteen out of 20 respondents (95.0%) experienced a reduction in pain. The Wilcoxon test results indicated a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). Child's Pose (*Balasana*) can be considered a simple, low-cost, safe, and practical non-pharmacological intervention for alleviating back pain during the third trimester of pregnancy.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the management of contraceptive side effects and the continuation of contraceptive use at the Lemito Regional General Hospital (RSUD). Data were obtained from 40 respondents and analyzed quantitatively using a cross-sectional analytical approach. Univariate analysis was used to describe age, education, side-effect management, and continuation of use, while bivariate analysis—employing the Chi-square test and Spearman correlation—was conducted to assess the relationship between side-effect management and the continuation of contraceptive use. The majority of respondents were aged 20–35 years (65.0%), had a high school education (55.0%), received good side-effect management (60.0%), and continued using contraceptives (67.5%). Tabulation results showed that 91.7% of respondents who received good side-effect management continued use, whereas 85.7% of those with poor management did not continue. Statistical tests revealed a significant relationship between side-effect management and the continuation of contraceptive use (p<0.001; r=0.662). These findings underscore that anticipatory counseling, rapid response to complaints, clear information, and follow-up care play crucial roles in preventing the discontinuation of contraceptive use.

Abstract

Maternal nutritional status is an important factor in supporting maternal health and fetal growth because it determines the fulfillment of energy, protein, vitamin, and mineral requirements during pregnancy. Local food-based nutrition education is an applicable approach because it aligns with community dietary habits, is more affordable, and can be implemented in daily life. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of nutrition education using local Manado food sources, particularly fish, vegetables, and tubers, in improving the nutritional status of pregnant women at UPTD Puskesmas Nuangan. The study used a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involving 30 pregnant women as respondents. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive analysis, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the paired sample t-test. The results showed that before the intervention, 53.3% of respondents had poor nutritional status with a mean pretest score of 61.87±6.92. After receiving education, the proportion of respondents with good nutritional status increased to 80.0%, with a mean posttest score of 74.43±6.35. The paired t-test showed a significant difference (t=14.19; p<0.001). Local food-based nutrition education effectively improved the nutritional status of pregnant women and supports the implementation of contextual nutrition education in routine antenatal care services.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the husband's role and adherence to multiple micronutrient supplement (MMS) consumption among pregnant women. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 30 pregnant women. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the Pearson Chi-Square test. The majority of respondents were aged 20–35 years (73.3%), had a high school education (53.3%), were unemployed (63.3%), and were multiparous (53.3%). The husband's role was categorized as good for 43.3% of respondents, fair for 33.3%, and poor for 23.4%, while adherence to MMS consumption was observed in 66.7% of the pregnant women. Cross-tabulation revealed adherence rates of 92.3% in the group with a good husband's role, 70.0% in the group with a fair husband's role, and only 14.3% in the group with a poor husband's role. The Pearson Chi-Square test yielded a χ² value of 14.807 (p = 0.001), indicating a statistically significant relationship. A Cramer’s V value of 0.703 signified a strong relationship. These findings confirm that husband involvement is a crucial social determinant of adherence to supplementation during pregnancy. Involving husbands in antenatal education needs to be strengthened to improve MMS consumption adherence and support the nutritional status of pregnant women.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of participation in antenatal classes on childbirth preparation among primigravida pregnant women at TPMB Neneng Mahfuzah Banjarmasin. This research employed a quantitative analytic approach with a cross-sectional design based on processed respondent tabulation data. The population and sample consisted of 20 primigravida pregnant women selected using a total sampling technique. The main variables analyzed were participation in antenatal classes, attendance intensity, and childbirth preparation categories. Data analysis was performed descriptively and supported by contingency tabulation analysis. The results showed that 18 respondents (90.0%) participated in antenatal classes, while 2 respondents (10.0%) did not participate. A total of 17 respondents (85.0%) were categorized as having good childbirth preparation, 1 respondent (5.0%) as moderate, and 2 respondents (10.0%) as poor. Among respondents who participated in antenatal classes, 94.4% were categorized as prepared, while none of the respondents who did not participate achieved the prepared category. Contingency analysis indicated a significant relationship between antenatal class participation and childbirth preparation (Fisher’s exact test p = 0.016), while attendance intensity also showed a positive correlation with readiness level (Spearman’s rho = 0.675; p = 0.001). These findings confirm that antenatal classes contribute to cognitive, emotional, and practical readiness in facing childbirth among primigravida women and should be optimized as a preventive strategy in primary midwifery care.

Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains an important nutritional and maternal health problem because it is associated with reduced maternal functional capacity, fatigue, an increased risk of postpartum hemorrhage, low birth weight, and unfavorable pregnancy outcomes. This study aimed to analyze the effect of spinach consumption on hemoglobin levels among anemic pregnant women at the Tepeleo Inpatient Community Health Center (UPTD Puskesmas Rawat Inap Tepeleo). The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. Based on the data analysis, a total of 30 anemic pregnant women were included in the analysis. Descriptive analysis was used to describe the characteristics of the respondents and hemoglobin levels, while the Shapiro-Wilk normality test was conducted before hypothesis testing. Since the pre-test and post-test data were normally distributed, differences in mean hemoglobin levels were tested using a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the mean hemoglobin level increased from 9.48 g/dL before the intervention to 11.02 g/dL after the intervention, with a mean difference of 1.54 g/dL. The normality test yielded significance values of 0.112 and 0.089, indicating that the assumption of normality was met. The paired t-test resulted in t = -9.82, df = 29, and p = 0.000, confirming a statistically significant increase in hemoglobin levels. These findings indicate that spinach consumption contributes to improvements in hemoglobin levels and has the potential to be used as a complementary food-based strategy in the management of anemia among pregnant women.

Abstract

Breastfeeding is an important public health strategy; however, the postpartum period is also a vulnerable period for stress and anxiety, which may interfere with the lactation process. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between maternal stress and anxiety levels and the smoothness of breast milk production among postpartum women at Koya Community Health Center. An analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 55 postpartum women. Stress and anxiety levels were categorized as mild, moderate, and severe, while the smoothness of breast milk production was classified as smooth and not smooth. Univariate analysis was used to describe the distribution of respondent characteristics and study variables, while bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test at a 5% significance level. The results showed a significant relationship between stress levels and the smoothness of breast milk production (χ² = 14.862; p = 0.001). Most women with mild stress experienced smooth breast milk production (90.0%), whereas severe stress was more frequently associated with unsmooth breast milk production (75.0%). A significant relationship was also found between anxiety levels and the smoothness of breast milk production (χ² = 17.451; p < 0.001), with higher anxiety associated with a greater proportion of unsmooth breast milk production. These findings highlight the importance of psychological screening and emotional support during postpartum care to improve breastfeeding success.

Abstract

This study analyzed the effectiveness of giving bananas and Fe tablets on hemoglobin levels in pregnant women in the third trimester at the Bilalang Health Center, Mobagu City. The preparation of the article was carried out based on the results of research data processing with a quantitative analytical approach and a one-group pretest-posttest structure reflected in the hemoglobin data pair before and after the intervention in the same respondents. The number of samples analyzed was 30 pregnant women in the third trimester. The characteristics of the respondents showed that most of them were 20–35 years old (73.3%), high school educated (46.7%), unemployed (63.3%), and multigravid (60.0%). Descriptive analysis showed that the average hemoglobin level increased from 9.78±0.74 g/dL before the intervention to 11.06±0.71 g/dL after the intervention, resulting in an average increase of 1.28 g/dL. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test showed that the hemoglobin data before the intervention (p=0.431) and after the intervention (p=0.296) were normally distributed, so the analysis was continued with a paired sample t-test. The inferential test resulted in a value of t=-14.54; df=29; and p=0.000 which indicates a statistically significant increase in hemoglobin levels after the administration of bananas and Fe tablets. These findings show that the combination of bananas and Fe tablets is effective in increasing the hemoglobin levels of pregnant women and restoring the average hemoglobin level after the intervention to above the pregnancy anemia limit of 11 g/dL. This combination can be considered as a practical nutritional companion in routine antenatal services.
