Abstract

Pain is a common complaint among patients with neurological disorders. According to the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders was 7.30% in Indonesia, 9.57% in West Kalimantan, and 7.31% in Sambas Regency, highlighting the importance of analgesic therapy. This study aimed to determine the demographic characteristics and prescribing patterns of analgesics among patients at the Neurology Outpatient Clinic of RSUD Pemangkat in 2025. A descriptive observational study with a retrospective cross-sectional design was conducted using 100 purposively selected medical records and prescriptions. Female patients predominated (63%), and the largest age group was 56–65 years (34%). Nociceptive pain was the most common diagnosis (51%), mainly low back pain (35%), followed by neuropathic pain (35%), primarily ischemic stroke (26%), and inflammatory pain (14%), mainly knee osteoarthritis (10%). Non-opioid analgesics were prescribed most frequently (47.29%), especially etoricoxib (14.2%), followed by adjuvant analgesics, mainly gabapentin (19.3%), and opioids, mainly tramadol (6.3%). Gabapentin was the most frequently prescribed drug (64 prescriptions, 19.3%). All prescriptions complied with AHFS and Drugs.com references, achieving 100% appropriateness in dose, frequency, and quantity.
