Abstract

Tourism growth does not necessarily translate into sustainable destination competitiveness, particularly in community-based cultural tourism destinations where economic development is closely connected with cultural identity, community participation, environmental conditions, and governance. This study examines how sustainable destination competitiveness beyond tourism growth is represented through documented stakeholder perspectives in Desa Sade, Lombok, Indonesia. A qualitative documentary case study was employed using 25 unique documents consisting of academic publications, institutional sources, tourism reports, and publicly accessible documents. The data were analyzed through thematic analysis and cross-stakeholder documentary comparison, using economic, social, cultural, environmental, and governance dimensions as sensitizing concepts. The findings indicate that competitiveness in Desa Sade is represented not merely by attracting tourists or generating economic activity, but by creating and retaining local value while maintaining the resources and relationships supporting destination sustainability. Community participation, cultural authenticity, environmental management, and stakeholder coordination emerge as interconnected capabilities. The study contributes to destination competitiveness research by conceptualizing sustainable destination competitiveness as a dynamic, multidimensional, and governance-dependent capability rather than a tourism-growth outcome.

Abstract

The convergence of digital transformation and environmental sustainability—termed the "Twin Transition"—presents both strategic opportunities and paradoxes for early-stage technology ventures. While digital startups possess structural agility, they often struggle to reconcile rapid economic scaling with ecological stewardship under severe resource constraints. This study addresses this tension by examining how digital startups architect green business model innovation through specialized organizational capabilities and platform ecosystems. Employing a qualitative literature synthesis based on 26 peer-reviewed articles, this research integrates Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT) with digital platform governance perspectives. The findings reveal that successful sustainable startups develop "Green-Digital Dynamic Capabilities" across three micro-foundations: green sensing, green seizing, and green transforming. Furthermore, digital platform architectures act as core enablers by driving dematerialization, eco-optimized delivery, and outcome-based value capture. These synthesized dimensions are unified into a novel conceptual model: the Sustainable Digital Startup Architecture (SDSA) framework. Ultimately, this study offers startup founders an actionable roadmap for building born-green digital ventures and provides impact investors with qualitative frameworks to evaluate sustainable tech ventures.
