Abstract

This study analyzed the partial and simultaneous contributions of leg, abdominal, and arm muscle strength to the smash ability of 30 badminton extracurricular students at MAN 2 Pamekasan. Employing a quantitative descriptive correlational design, total sampling was applied to simulated data. Measurements utilized a back and leg dynamometer (leg strength), a 30-second sit-up test (abdominal strength), a 30-second push-up test (arm strength), and a targeted 10-shot smash test. Simulation results indicated positive correlations between all independent variables and smash ability: leg muscle strength (r = 0.623; p < 0.001) contributed 38.8%, abdominal muscle strength (r = 0.574; p < 0.001) contributed 33.0%, and arm muscle strength (r = 0.527; p = 0.003) contributed 27.8%. Simultaneously, the three variables produced R = 0.833 and R² = 0.694, accounting for 69.4% of the variation in smash ability (F(3,26) = 19.614; p < 0.001). In conclusion, leg muscle strength demonstrated the largest bivariate contribution, though all three strength components were strongly associated with overall smash performance.
