Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model through waste upcycling product media in improving students' cognitive and behavioral ecoliteracy. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design, involving 32 fifth-grade students from SDN 2 Cisantana as the experimental group and 37 fifth-grade students from SDN 1 Cisantana as the control group. Data were collected through a test to measure cognitive ecoliteracy and a questionnaire to measure behavioral ecoliteracy, then analyzed using the N-Gain test to determine the level of effectiveness and the Independent Sample T-Test to examine differences between groups. The results showed that the experimental group's cognitive ecoliteracy increased from an average of 54.69 to 84.69, with an N-Gain value of 69.11, classified as fairly effective, while behavioral ecoliteracy increased from 49.16 to 60.13, with an N-Gain value of 36.77, classified as ineffective. The hypothesis test results also showed that H0 was rejected for both variables, confirming that the differences were statistically significant. It can therefore be concluded that the PjBL model is fairly effective in improving students' cognitive ecoliteracy, but has not yet been effective in optimally improving their behavioral ecoliteracy.
