Abstract

Self-confidence is an individual’s ability to believe in their own capabilities, view themselves positively, and face life’s demands adaptively. This study focuses on an 18-year-old female adolescent exhibiting low self-confidence, characterized by a tendency to compare herself with others, social withdrawal, and a fear of failure. The study aims to determine the effectiveness of cognitive restructuring in enhancing self-confidence in an adolescent using a case study method. Assessment was conducted through interviews, observation, graphic tests, the Sack’s Sentence Completion Test (SSCT), and Lauster’s Self-Confidence Scale (LSCS). The intervention was designed to identify and transform negative thoughts into more realistic ones. Results indicated an improvement in self-confidence, evidenced by a rise in the LSCS score from 71 (low category) pre-intervention to 84 (moderate category) post-intervention, accompanied by a reduction in negative thoughts, increased courage in facing challenges, and more adaptive social interaction skills.
