Abstract

Abstract

Coral reefs, as part of coastal and marine ecosystems, are vulnerable to disturbances. Coral reef degradation is generally caused by two main factors: natural factors and anthropogenic factors. Given the importance of coral reef ecosystems for the surrounding organisms, it is necessary to carry out restoration efforts or rehabilitation programs for coral reef. PT TIMAH Tbk, as a tin mining company, has implemented environmental restoration programs to rehabilitate damaged areas. One such program is the submersion of coral transplants around Putri Island and Panjang Island. The number of coral recruitment individuals identified by genus was 74 individuals on Putri Island and 43 individuals on Panjang Island. The diversity index (H’) on Putri Island averaged 1.459, while on Panjang Island it averaged 1.594; both are categorized as moderate. The evenness index (E) averaged 0.664 on Putri Island and 0.766 on Panjang Island, both falling into the stable category. The dominance index (C) on Putri Island averaged 0.318, which is categorized as moderate, indicating that a few genera, such as Favia and Goniastrea, are dominant. In contrast, the dominance index on Panjang Island averaged 0.252, categorized as low, suggesting no genus dominates in that area.

Abstract

In the process of Spirulina cultivation, environmental factors, particularly light intensity, play a crucial role in influencing its growth. Spirulina production is estimated to be between 3000 and 20,000 tons per year. Spirulina is considered a nutraceutical due to its high nutritional quality (protein, essential amino acids and fatty acids, polysaccharides, carotenoids, vitamins, and iron). The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of different light intensities on the growth rate of Spirulina platensis and to determine the relationship between light intensity and protein content in Spirulina platensis. This research was conducted in the Marine Science laboratory, while protein testing will be done in the Biology laboratory using the Kjeldahl method to determine protein content. The research findings indicate that light intensity significantly affects the growth rate of Spirulina platensis. Light intensity of 3000 lux proved to be the most optimal, resulting in rapid and stable growth without triggering physiological stress, while an intensity of 1000 lux produced slow growth and 6000 lux accelerated initial growth but risked stagnation due to light stress. Treatment with an intensity of 3000 lux yielded the highest protein content of 76%, compared to 1000 lux (65%) and 6000 lux (68%), and variations in light intensity from 1000 to 6000 lux did not significantly affect the yield of Spirulina platensis.

Abstract

Mangroves have the ability to absorb and store heavy metals such as lead (Pb) and copper (Cu) from the environment. Heavy metals that enter the environment at certain concentrations can be neutralized by hyperaccumulator plants, one of which is mangroves. The objective of this study is to determine the comparison of heavy metal accumulation (lead and copper) in the roote, leaves and sediments of Sonneratia alba mangroves at Tanjung Bunga Beach and Koala Pangkalpinang Beach. The study was conducted in April 2025 at two locations: Tanjung Bunga Beach and Koala Pangkalpinang Beach. The methods used in this study were descriptive methods and the sampling method employed was purposive sampling. The analytical method used to measure the concentrations of heavy metals Pb and Cu in sediment, roots and leaves of mangroves was Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). The analysis results showed that the heavy metal Pb content in the roots, leaves and sediments of Sonneratia alba mangrove at Tanjung Bunga Beach was 0,614 mg/kg, 0,726 mg/kg and 15,7 mg/kg, respectively, while the heavy metal Pb content in the roots, leaves and sediments of Sonneratia alba mangroves at Koala Beach was 1,143 mg/kg, 0,270 mg/kg and 10,8 mg/kg, respectively. The results indicate that Sonneratia alba mangroves have only a slight ability to absorb heavy metals Pb and Cu.

Abstract

Tanjung Sangkar is a village located in Lepar Pongok Sub-district, Lepar Island, South Bangka Regency. The waters of Tanjung Sangkar are known for their marine biodiversity, especially seagrass beds and coral reefs. Remote sensing techniques using cloud computing methods utilizing satellite imagery based on Google Earth Engine can provide information on seagrass distribution in Tanjung Sangkar Waters. Using Sentinel-2A satellite imagery with a spatial resolution of 10 m, this research will provide information related to seagrass distribution in Tanjung Sangkar Waters. Based on the results of supervised classification using the SVM (Super Vector Machine) algorithm, the class shows different colors. There are 3 classes, deep sea, shallow sea and seagrass. The seagrass distribution area in Tanjung Sangkar Waters has a value of around 88.38 ha. Four seagrass species were found in Tanjung Sangkar Waters, namely, Cymodocea rotundata, Thalassia hemprichii, Enhalus acoroides, and Syringodium isoetifolium. The percentage of seagrass cover based on the results of field surveys has an average value of 38.65%, indicating the criteria of “less healthy”. The largest seagrass cover in this study was found at location point 3 which amounted to 58.52%, and the lowest cover was at location point 2 which was 32.67%.
