Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between hand movement coordination and badminton long service performance among fifth-grade students at State Elementary School 067260 Medan Marelan. A quantitative approach with a simple correlational design was employed. The source study reports a population of 30 fifth-grade students, while the final SPSS statistical output contained 12 valid cases. Hand movement coordination was assessed using a 30-second ball throwing-and-catching test, whereas long service performance was measured using a badminton long service test. Technology-assisted data processing was conducted with SPSS through descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, linearity analysis, Pearson Product Moment correlation, and the coefficient of determination. The mean coordination score was 12.17, with a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 15. The mean long service score was 49.67, with a minimum of 21 and a maximum of 78. Both variables were normally distributed. Pearson analysis produced r = 0.621 and p = 0.031, with a reported r-table value of 0.576 at df = 10 and alpha = 0.05. Thus, hand movement coordination had a statistically significant, positive, and strong relationship with long service performance. R-squared was 0.386, indicating that 38.6% of the observed variation in long service performance was associated with coordination. The findings support the integration of coordination-oriented exercises and digital statistical assessment in elementary badminton instruction, while also indicating the need to examine other technical and physical determinants in future research.
