Abstract

This study examines the role of spirituality in fostering the creative economic empowerment of women in Kampung Raja Prailiu, East Sumba, from a feminist theological perspective. Women in the Marangga Pandulang group have considerable potential to produce traditional handwoven textiles. However, their contributions are marginalized by patriarchal social structures, gender biased interpretations of religious texts, and limited access to resources and institutional support. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, this study draws on in-depth interviews, observation, and group discussions to explore how feminist spirituality functions as a moral-motivational foundation for strengthening women’s economic agency. The findings reveal that integrating feminist spirituality with the creative economy will reinforce cultural identity and social solidarity. Through weaving, women demonstrate agency while resisting patriarchal norms. Weaving is understood as a form of theological practice, a sacred space in which women encounter God. An empowerment grounded in feminist spirituality constitutes a contextual approach to local economic development and to advancing gender equality.
