Abstract

Menstruation is a natural biological process experienced by all women during their productive years. Menstrual hygiene management is an important aspect of reproductive health. The purpose of this study was to describe menstrual hygiene practices during menstruation in adolescent girls with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB C Autism Kedungkandang. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method chosen to describe in depth the menstrual hygiene practices of adolescent girls with mild intellectual disabilities, as well as to identify variations in abilities between individuals as a basis for recommendations for more personalized and adaptive interventions. In addition to practice, interviews were also conducted online with the homeroom teachers of both subjects to obtain more comprehensive information about the menstrual hygiene management abilities of both subjects in their daily lives at school. The results of this study indicate that the two adolescent girls with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB C Autism Kedungkandang have different levels of ability in practicing menstrual hygiene, especially in using sanitary napkins. In addition, the role of teachers, parental cooperation, and a responsive school environment are very important in helping students learn menstrual hygiene. Using effective learning methods will also increase children's independence in learning about maintaining personal hygiene during menstruation (menstrual hygiene).
