Abstract

Poverty is a complex issue.  The measurement of poverty is not only based on income aspects, but must be measured with an approach that considers various dimensions of life. The purpose of this research is to analyze the multidimensional poverty status of oil palm farm laborer households in Jenggalu Village, Seluma Regency, and the contribution of deprivation in each dimension and indicator used. The research was conducted using a census survey of all 33 oil palm farm laborer household heads in the village in November 2025. Data were analyzed using a modified Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) with five dimensions and eleven indicators. The results show that the multidimensional poverty status of farm laborer households is divided into three categories: non-poor (37%), vulnerable to poverty (30%), and multidimensionally poor (33%). The basic needs dimension (especially cooking fuel and drinking water) and the housing dimension are the main contributors to deprivation across all household categories. In multidimensionally poor households, almost all dimensions experience simultaneous deprivation, with the highest intensity in health (morbidity) and education (years of schooling). This study concludes that the monetary approach is insufficient to capture the vulnerability of farm laborer households, necessitating integrated, dimension-based policy interventions for more effective poverty alleviation.
