Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate haul road geometry on the overburden route of Pit B at a coal mining contractor in Sarolangun, Jambi, Indonesia, and to estimate dump truck cycle time and productivity after geometry correction. An observational–evaluative field design was applied: 48 cross-sections of a 523.82 m road were surveyed with a Total Station and assessed against the Indonesian good mining practice decree, 30 truck trips were timed, and the corrected condition was simulated with a rimpull–resistance model. Only 18.75% of cross-sections met the study design criterion for two-lane width, the steepest descent reached −21.68% against a 12% limit, 45.8% met the cross-slope range on a two-side mean basis, and all curve radii complied. Delays caused by narrow and steep sections made up 69.2% of total delay. Correcting grade and width was predicted to reduce the cycle time from 11.99 to 9.47 minutes (21.0%; 95% bootstrap interval 20.1–21.9%) and to raise truck productivity from 32.06 to 40.60 bank cubic metres per hour (26.6%). If only half of the assumed speed gains were realised, the reduction would fall to 14.7%. These are simulation-based predictions that require field validation after road correction.
