Abstract

The increasing prevalence of chronic kidney disease and unhealthy lifestyle behaviors among adolescents highlights the need for an accurate instrument to assess kidney health literacy in this population. Existing instruments primarily measure general health literacy and may not adequately address kidney-specific knowledge and preventive behaviors. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Indonesian version of the Adolescent Kidney Health Literacy Questionnaire. A descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. Content validity was assessed using the Item-Level Content Validity Index (I-CVI) and Scale-Level Content Validity Index (S-CVI). Construct validity was evaluated using Pearson’s product-moment correlation, while internal consistency reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha. The content validity analysis demonstrated excellent relevance, with I-CVI and S-CVI values of 1.00. Construct validity testing showed that all items were valid, with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.481 to 0.859, exceeding the critical r-value of 0.316. The questionnaire also demonstrated excellent internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.966. These findings indicate that the Indonesian version of the Adolescent Kidney Health Literacy Questionnaire has strong validity and reliability for assessing kidney health literacy among adolescents. The instrument can be used by nurses, school health educators, and researchers to identify baseline kidney health literacy and evaluate preventive and health-promoting interventions targeting adolescents.
