Abstract

This study aims to develop a podcast-based classical guidance media entitled "Menilai Diri Secara Sehat" (Assessing Oneself Healthily), consisting of six thematic episodes based on the five dimensions of self-confidence according to Lauster (1976) and distributed through the Spotify platform, to test its feasibility, and to measure its effectiveness in improving the self-confidence of eighth-grade students at SMPN 2 Lembang. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method with an adaptation of the Sugiyono (2019) model into seven stages. The research subjects consisted of 31 students of class VIII A selected through purposive sampling. The feasibility of the media was validated by three expert validators, namely a material expert, a media expert, and a practitioner (school counselor), using a validation sheet with a 1–4 rating scale developed by the researcher. The effectiveness of the media was measured using a self-confidence questionnaire whose validity was tested through Pearson correlation (r = 0.406–0.658 > r table 0.195) and which was found to be highly reliable based on a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.937. The validation results showed an overall average score of 77%, with the material and media experts obtaining scores of 74% and 78% (feasible), respectively, while the practitioner obtained a score of 85% (very feasible). The paired samples t-test results showed a significant increase in self-confidence (t = −5.568; df = 30; p < 0.001), with the mean score increasing from 113.35 to 120.65. The effect size analysis yielded a Cohen's d of 1.000, η² of 0.508, and r of 0.713, all of which were categorized as large effects. These findings confirm that podcast-based classical guidance media through Spotify is feasible and effective in improving students' self-confidence.
