Abstract

Intrauterine Device (IUD) is one of the most effective long-term contraceptive methods for preventing pregnancy. However, its utilization remains low due to limited knowledge and negative perceptions among women of childbearing age. Lack of understanding regarding the benefits, effectiveness, and safety of IUDs causes many women to prefer short-term contraceptive methods. Therefore, effective health education methods such as telehealth education and direct counseling are needed to improve women’s knowledge about IUDs. This study aimed to determine the effect of telehealth education and direct counseling on the knowledge of women of childbearing age regarding IUDs. This study used a quantitative design with a two-group pretest-posttest approach. The population consisted of 100 women of childbearing age, with a sample of 50 respondents selected using purposive sampling technique. Respondents were divided into two groups, namely the telehealth education group and the direct counseling group. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests with SPSS version 25. The results showed that telehealth education had a significant effect on increasing knowledge, with a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). Direct counseling also had a significant effect on increasing knowledge, with a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). The Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference between telehealth education and direct counseling, with a p-value of 0.005 (<0.05). Both telehealth education and direct counseling improved knowledge, but direct counseling was found to be more effective. It is recommended that health workers optimize direct counseling and combine it with telehealth education in family planning education programs.
