Abstract

Background: Cervicitis is inflammation of the cervix commonly associated with sexually transmitted infections and may cause complications if inadequately treated. Local data on gonococcal and non-gonococcal cervicitis in Bali remain limited. Objective: To describe the characteristics of patients with gonococcal and non-gonococcal cervicitis at Ngoerah Bali Hospital from January 2021 to December 2024. Methods: A retrospective descriptive study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using medical records from the Dermatology and Venereology Polyclinic. Total sampling included all eligible new cases. Variables included diagnosis, age, education, occupation, history of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), sexually transmitted infection (STI) co-infections, HIV status, number of sexual partners, sexual behavior, sexual orientation, therapy, and follow-up adherence. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequencies and percentages. Results: Among 37 female patients, 29 (78.4%) had non-gonococcal cervicitis and 8 (21.6%) had gonococcal cervicitis. Most patients were aged 25–44 years (51.4%), had a high school education (75.7%), and were unemployed (32.5%). Most had no previous history of STDs (51.4%) and were HIV-negative (91.9%). Multiple sexual partners were reported by 59.6% of patients, while 51.4% reported sexual activity with boyfriends; all patients were heterosexual. The most commonly administered therapies were azithromycin (40.6%), doxycycline (37.8%), and cefixime (21.6%). Follow-up adherence was 64.9%. Conclusion: Non-gonococcal cervicitis predominated, with most patients being women of reproductive age and exhibiting potentially risky sexual behaviors. These findings may support improved screening, education, and clinical management.
