Abstract

This study was motivated by the low poetry writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 7 Karawang Barat, particularly their difficulties in generating ideas and selecting appropriate diction, as well as the use of conventional learning methods. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Nature Learning method assisted by printed photo media on students’ poetry writing skills. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental method with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population consisted of all eighth-grade students at SMPN 7 Karawang Barat, with 67 students selected through purposive sampling. Class VIII A, consisting of 35 students, served as the control group, while Class VIII B, consisting of 32 students, served as the experimental group. Data was collected through poetry writing pretests and posttests, as well as a student response questionnaire. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, homogeneity test, Independent-Samples t-Test, Paired-Samples t-Test, and N-Gain analysis using SPSS 25. The results showed a significant effect of the Nature Learning method assisted by printed photo media on students’ poetry writing skills. The experimental group’s mean score increased from 57.21 in the pretest to 79.34 in the posttest, while the control group increased from 63.65 to 66.09. The Independent-Samples t-Test yielded a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the groups. However, the experimental group’s mean N-Gain score was 48.18%, categorized as low. These findings indicate that Nature Learning assisted by printed photo media can significantly improve poetry writing skills compared with conventional learning, although its overall effectiveness remains limited.
