Abstract

This article discusses Islamic educational methods through the approach of setting a good example (uswah hasanah) as practiced by two companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, namely Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab. This study is motivated by contemporary educational challenges, which not only demand mastery of knowledge but also require character development through an educational process that provides concrete examples to students. This research aims to analyze the exemplary roles of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab and their relevance as Islamic educational methods in character development. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a literature review approach through the analysis of various sources related to the lives, thoughts, and educational practices of these two companions. The results indicate that both emphasized the importance of qudwah as a concrete example in educating students in matters of faith and moral conduct. Educators do not merely serve as conveyors of knowledge but must also embody the Islamic values they teach. The exemplary conduct of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab demonstrates its relevance in shaping a character that is honest, has integrity, is responsible, disciplined, and dedicated. These findings imply that the consistent application of the exemplary model can serve as a crucial strategy in strengthening Islamic character education amid today’s educational challenges.
