Abstract

Character building from an early age is a crucial aspect of child education, particularly the cultivation of a sense of responsibility. Instilling a sense of responsibility in young children is a continuous process integrated into learning activities. Initial observations regarding responsibility for maintaining cleanliness indicated that the children had not yet fully mastered this behavior. This study aimed to enhance the sense of responsibility in young children through the implementation of positive discipline. The study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, conducted in cycles comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects were 20 students from Group B at Dharma Wanita Purorejo Kindergarten in Tempursari District, Lumajang Regency. The results demonstrated an improvement in the children's responsible behavior: the average score rose from 45% in the pre-action phase to 66.3% in Cycle I, ultimately reaching a mastery level of 96.3% in Cycle II. The children grasped the concept of responsibility and were able to apply it consistently in their daily activities. Positive discipline proved effective in creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment, encouraging children to learn from direct experience without the use of punishment. This study offers contributions and recommendations regarding the implementation of positive discipline as a learning culture and serves as a guide for teachers in designing habit-forming programs that support character development.
