The Saparan tradition is a form of Javanese cultural expression that embodies social, religious, and cultural values transmitted across generations. However, modernization and changing community lifestyles may threaten the sustainability of local traditions, particularly among younger generations. This study aims to examine the Saparan tradition as a medium for preserving local wisdom and strengthening character values in the Tolokan Village community. A qualitative approach with a descriptive research design was employed. Data were collected through observations of Saparan activities, in-depth interviews with community leaders, cultural figures, tradition organizers, young people, and community members, as well as documentation of tradition-related activities. Data were analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Saparan tradition functions not only as a cultural ritual but also as a social space for maintaining cultural identity and transmitting local wisdom across generations. The tradition reflects important character values, including religiosity, mutual cooperation (gotong royong), togetherness, solidarity, responsibility, respect for ancestors and cultural heritage, and concern for the social environment. Youth participation in preparing and implementing the tradition contributes significantly to intergenerational cultural transmission. Thus, the Saparan tradition has strategic potential as a culture-based character education medium and as a mechanism for preserving local wisdom amid social change. Sustaining this tradition requires collaboration among communities, younger generations, educational institutions, and village governments.
