Abstract

This study was motivated by the suboptimal development of children’s gross motor skills, driven by stimulation activities in early childhood education institutions that tend to be monotonous, lack variety, and are dominated by repetitive basic movements. These conditions can limit the stimulation of gross motor skills while also reducing children’s interest in physical activity. One medium that can be used to address this issue is the “Yoga Freeze Dance” video, which combines storytelling, music, interactive visuals, and various movements to create enjoyable physical activities. This study aims to determine the effect of the “Yoga Freeze Dance” video on children’s gross motor development in kindergarten. This study employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 26 children, comprising 13 children in the experimental group and 13 children in the control group. Data were collected through tests and observations of gross motor development indicators, including strength, coordination, flexibility, and agility. The data were analyzed through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and an independent samples t-test using SPSS Statistics 25. The results showed that the mean gross motor development score for the experimental group increased from 8.77 on the pretest to 15.23 on the posttest, while the control group’s score increased from 8.62 to 13.38. The results of the independent-samples t-test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.006 < 0.05. Thus, there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, indicating that the “Yoga Freeze Dance” video has an effect on children’s gross motor development in kindergarten.
