Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of creative writing skills among fifth-grade students of SD Katolik Penilering in the Indonesian language subject. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model and its effectiveness in improving the creative writing skills of fifth-grade students at SD Katolik Penilering. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 15 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, creative writing skill tests, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis. The results indicated that the Project Based Learning model was implemented through essential questions, project planning, scheduling, project implementation and monitoring, assessment of project results, and evaluation of learning experiences. Teacher activity increased from 68.75% in Cycle I to 87.50% in Cycle II, while student activity increased from 65.00% to 86.66%. Creative writing mastery increased from 20% with a mean score of 59 in the pre-action stage, to 40% with a mean score of 69.33 in Cycle I, and reached 100% with a mean score of 95.66 in Cycle II. Thus, the implementation of Project Based Learning improved the creative writing skills of fifth-grade students at SD Katolik Penilering.
