Abstract

Perlakuan disusun dalam 7 taraf pemupukan yaitu : tanpa pupuk (P0), pemupukan standar pembanding (P1), 0.5 dosis pupuk majemuk tinggi kalium (P2), 0.75 dosis pupuk majemuk tinggi kalium (P3), 1 dosis pupuk majemuk tinggi kalium (P4), 1.25 dosis pupuk majemuk tinggi kalium (P5), 1.5 dosis pupuk majemuk tinggi kalium (P6).

Abstract

This study aimed to test the effectiveness of gauze and nylon fiber wraps containing ethylene oxidizing compounds, namely clay mixed with potassium permanganate (KMnO₄), in extending the shelf life of Raja Bulu bananas (Musa sp., AAB Group). The experiment was conducted at the Postharvest Laboratory, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural University, from February to March. A randomized complete design (RCD) with seven treatments was applied: P1 as control without wrapping or oxidizing materials; P2, P3, and P4 using gauze with 30, 60, and 90 g oxidizing compounds; and P5, P6, and P7 using nylon fibers with 30, 60, and 90 g oxidizing compounds. Each compound consisted of clay and KMnO₄ in predetermined proportions. The results showed that the longest shelf life, reaching 14 days, was obtained from P5 treatment, where the bananas remained edible. Similar results were observed in P3 and P4 gauze treatments, while bananas in P1 and P7 spoiled after nine days. Wrapping with ethylene oxidizing compounds reduced fruit weight loss during 3–12 days of storage, with P5 showing the lowest loss after 12 days. However, the treatments did not affect the skin color scale index, fruit flesh-to-skin ratio, edible portion, or skin firmness. Overall, ethylene oxidizing wraps extended banana shelf life by up to five days compared with the control. Nylon fiber wrapping with 30 g oxidizing compound is recommended for Raja Bulu banana storage. This treatment offers a practical and low-cost postharvest technology for maintaining banana quality during short-term distribution processes.

Abstract

Sweet corn is a horticultural commodity that is widely consumed in Indonesia. This study evaluated the effectiveness of NPK 18-18-18 fertilizer on the vegetative growth, yield components, and relative agronomic effectiveness (RAE) of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata). Field experiments were conducted using fertilizer dosages of 0,50, 0,75, 1,00, and 1,50 NPK, with a control treatment for comparison. The application of NPK 18-18-18 significantly increased plant height, stem diameter, leaf number, ear length, ear diameter, biomass weight, ear weight with husk, ear weight without husk, plot yield, and overall productivity compared with the control. Mean values across treatments ranged from 68,94–205,72 cm for plant height, 7,41–20,47 mm for stem diameter, 6,01–13,00 leaves per plant, 15,41–20,89 cm for ear length, and 36,05–49,65 mm for ear diameter. Biomass weight ranged from 0,12–0,34 kg, ear weight with husk from 0,13–0,34 kg, and ear weight without husk from 0,12–0,28 kg. Plot yield varied between 7,91–25,46 kg, corresponding to productivity levels of 5,02–16,16 t/ha. RAE analysis indicated that fertilizer application was effective at dosages of 0,75, 1,00, and 1,50 NPK, with the highest effectiveness observed at 1,50 NPK (118%). Notably, the 0,75 NPK dosage achieved an RAE value of 101%, demonstrating that lower fertilizer input can enhance yield while reducing production costs and mitigating fertilizer scarcity. These findings suggest that NPK 18-18-18 fertilizer, when applied at an optimal dosage, can be effectively utilized in sweet corn cultivation to improve growth and productivity while ensuring efficient nutrient management.

Abstract

Sweet corn is a high-value horticultural crop with steadily increasing demand for both fresh consumption and use as a raw material in the food industry. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of NPK 16-16-16 fertilizer on the growth and yield of sweet corn. The research was conducted at Sindangbarang Experimental Field, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University from July to October 2025. This experiment used a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with a single factor, namely the dose of fertilizer application. Treatments were using fertilizer dosages of 0, 50, 0,75, 1,00, and 1,50 NPK 16-16-16, with a control treatment for comparison. During the vegetative phase, sweet corn exhibited similar growth responses across all fertilization levels relative to the control. However, all fertilizer doses significantly improved stover weight, cob weight with and without husk, cob length, cob diameter, yield per plot, and overall productivity compared to the control. The application of NPK 16-16-16 fertilizer at the recommended (1.0) rate achieved the highest relative agronomic effectiveness (103.11%), corresponding to a 1.03-fold yield increase over the control and outperforming the comparison treatment. Application of NPK 16-16-16 at the 1.0 recommended dose is suggested as the most efficient fertilization strategy for sweet corn production, as it maximizes yield and productivity without unnecessary increases in fertilizer input.
