Abstract

The increasing prevalence of cyber pathologies in the digital era—such as cyberbullying, hate speech, privacy breaches (doxxing), and digital exclusion (cancel culture)—reflects a crisis of empathy and amorality driven by moral relativism and the erosion of users’ spirituality. This study aims to examine how the principles of Islamic morality can be actualized as standards of digital ethics (netiquette) to address this moral crisis. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach through library research, this study examines primary sources from the Qur’an and Hadith, as well as contemporary literature on digital sociology published within the last five years (2022–2026). The findings indicate that Islamic morality provides a normative-pragmatic framework through the internalization of the principles of muraqabah (awareness of divine oversight), ṣidq (data integrity and honesty), ‘adl (equal treatment), amanah (accountability for digital footprints), rahmah (virtual compassion), tabayyun (data verification), and hifzh al-isba‘ (responsibility for one’s digital expressions). This study concludes that addressing cyber toxicity requires strengthening Islamic morality-based digital moral literacy, systematically integrating it into Islamic Religious Education curricula and cyber-related public policies.
