Abstract

The background for the upgrading of the settlement in Kampung Lampion Code is based on environmental conditions characterized by squalor, unfitness for habitation, and vulnerability to landslides and flooding, making it necessary to arrange the housing and the surrounding area to improve the quality of the community’s living conditions. The objective of this study is to examine how a model of land consolidation and building reconstruction can produce new housing unit designs that are liveable, have adequate building performance, are appropriate to the local context, and are cost-efficient. The research method employed is qualitative, with data collection conducted in a participatory and collaborative manner between the Professional Architecture Study Program, the Yogyakarta City Public Works Housing and Settlement Areas (DPUPKP) of Yogyakarta City, the Society for the Promotion of Area Resource Centres (SPARC) India through the Roof Over Our Heads (ROOH) Campaign, and community involvement in formulating preferences for ideal housing along the riverbanks. The research results consist of a housing model concept for the construction of ten new housing units in Kampung Lampion Kali Code. The proposed model employs a strategy of integration among houses to form a liveable and sustainable settlement, by adapting the Indische architectural style and utilizing land consolidation and reconstruction approaches to create more adaptive and functional housing for the residents of Kampung Lampion Kali Code.
