Abstract

Abstract

The Mantingan Mosque is one of the cultural heritages of ancient Islam and is one of the tourism assets in Jepara Regency. The Mantingan Mosque in Jepara has several ornamental designs that are applied to several sides of the mosque walls. The Mantingan Mosque also has a characteristic ornament design that still has acculturation elements of Chinese, Hindu, Buddhist and Javanese cultures. These ornaments were then inspired to be developed into a typeface design concept which in it has an anatomical element of an ornament character where the construction is based on typeface design rules. The visual concept of this typeface design is obtained from the results of research conducted on respondents who are engaged in the design field. Then the typeface is designed on a digital basis which is packaged into a font pack with the name “Mantingan Font.otf” format which can be installed and used on a PC (Personal Computer). The designed typeface is then socialized to partners (Mantingan mosque administrators) to be further developed in the form of an application on the media sign system. The purpose of this design is to develop and support the context of the information system (sign system) at the Mantingan mosque in Jepara Regency as religious tourism. The research method used is descriptive-quantitative supported by factual field data and research that has been carried out supported by  ATUMICS approach.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Desain, Kreasi Visual, Literasi Visual Abstract: The lack of visual literacy skills of design students makes the resulting work less communicative. Students tend to pursue the technical and aesthetic side in the process of visual creation and tend to lack the mastery of the concept of communication of the message to be conveyed. This happens due to a lack of understanding of the visual literacy process. Through the visual literacy model by Hattwigg, et al., Who shares visual literacy in seven components of literacy ability, the phenomenon of visual literacy of current design students will be analyzed to obtain an overview and strategy for strengthening visual literacy skills further. As a result, design students still have difficulties in tracing visual information and using existing visual images in producing meaningful visual works. Abstract

This research is focused to describe the messages contained in the reliefs of Candi Sukuh, which are considered taboo. This study was conducted because Candi Sukuh may well be an evidence that long before the existence of the feminism movement, the Hindu-Buddhist communities in the past have recognized differences between men and women. Such difference is a social construct which was understood in terms of compromising relations between men and women. The method used in this research was descriptive-interpretive, and data were analyzed using a multi-design approach. Theories of iconography were used to analyze messages of the reliefs of Candi Sukuh, whereas the theory of feminism was applied using approaches of body, sex and gender. Research results showed messages of feminism are contained in the Sudhāmālā hymn, reliefs of linggā and yoni, and the kālāmĕrgā relief. Conclusively, gender messages presented by the reliefs of Candi Sukuh informs the rejection of objectification of women’s body by men, who are considered to have authority over women's bodies.
