Abstract

Preoperative anxiety can affect a patient's physical condition, leading to elevated blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate. This study aimed to identify the level of anxiety experienced by patients undergoing spinal anesthesia at Emanuel Hospital, Banjarnegara. A quantitative descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The study population consisted of patients scheduled for spinal anesthesia during June and July 2025, with a sample size of 36 respondents selected via total sampling. The Visual Analogue Scale for Anxiety (VAS-A) questionnaire was used as the research instrument. The results indicated that the majority of respondents experienced mild anxiety (14 respondents, 20.6%), followed by moderate anxiety (12 respondents, 17.6%) and severe anxiety (10 respondents, 14.7%). The study at Emanuel Hospital, Banjarnegara, suggests that most patients undergoing surgery with spinal anesthesia experience only mild anxiety.
