Abstract

This study is motivated by the positive trend observed in the Return on Assets (ROA) of Sharia Commercial Banks between 2019 and 2025. While macroeconomic shocks are typically followed by a decline in profitability, Sharia Commercial Banks demonstrated positive performance. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the impact of the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), the ratio of Operating Expenses to Operating Income (BOPO), and the Net Operating Margin (NOM) on ROA, and examining the role of Non-Performing Financing (NPF) in moderating these relationships. The study population consists of Sharia Commercial Banks in Indonesia; a purposive sampling method was employed to select nine banks as the subjects of the study for the 2019–2025 observation period. Data analysis was conducted using Multiple Linear Regression and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) via SPSS software. The results indicate that, individually, CAR and BOPO have a significant negative effect on ROA, whereas NOM has a significant positive effect on ROA.The moderation analysis reveals that NPF significantly moderates the relationships by weakening the impact of the independent variables on ROA. The study's findings underscore the importance of financing risk management to ensure that operational efficiency and capital adequacy optimally boost banking financial performance.
