Abstract

Labor absorption essentially reflects a region's capacity to integrate its available workforce into productive economic activities. This study aims to analyze the impact of the working-age population, the Human Development Index (HDI), labor productivity, and economic growth on labor absorption across 11 regencies and cities in Jambi Province during the 2018–2024 period. Employing a quantitative approach, the study utilizes panel data regression analysis, specifically the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). Estimation results indicate that, individually, the working-age population and HDI have a positive and significant effect on labor absorption. Labor productivity has a negative and significant effect, whereas economic growth does not significantly influence labor absorption. Collectively, the four variables exert a significant influence on labor absorption, with an adjusted R-squared value of 99.26%. These findings suggest that enhancing the quality of the working-age population and advancing human development are crucial factors in driving labor absorption; meanwhile, productivity gains must be balanced with policies that continue to foster job creation. Therefore, more inclusive labor development policies—grounded in improving human resource quality—are required to ensure that economic growth effectively maximizes labor absorption.
