Abstract

Rabies is an acute infectious disease that attacks the central nervous system and is caused by the rabies virus. This disease is transmitted through saliva or bites of Rabies-Transmitting Animals (HPR). This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes of the community towards rabies prevention efforts in Ruiwapa Hamlet, Kairatu Village, West Seram Regency. The study design used a cross-sectional approach involving 116 respondents. The instrument used was a questionnaire, and the sampling technique employed was accidental sampling. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test which included univariate and bivariate analysis. The results showed a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and rabies prevention (p = 0.000) and between attitudes and rabies prevention (p = 0.000). People with high knowledge and positive attitudes were more likely to take preventive measures, such as routinely vaccinating pets, washing bite wounds with running water, and immediately seeking medical help. Thus, it can be concluded that knowledge and attitudes have a statistically significant relationship with rabies prevention behavior.
