Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to the social life of Generation Z, a group that has grown up alongside social media, the internet, and various digital platforms. This study aims to systematically analyze the impact of the digital environment on the mental health of Generation Z using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method and the PRISMA approach. This study screened 32 articles from the Google Scholar and ERIC databases and selected 13 articles that met the inclusion criteria such as publication years 2018–2025, subjects from Generation Z, and a focus on the relationship between the digital environment and psychological aspects such as depression, anxiety, stress, and mental well-being. The review results indicate that the intensity of social media use and digital social pressure correlate with an increased risk of mental disorders in Generation Z, including depression, stress, and loneliness. However, digital use can also have positive impacts if moderated healthily, such as through supportive online communities and access to technology-based mental health services. This study emphasizes the importance of digital literacy education and psychological coping strategies to help Generation Z wisely utilize the digital environment. These findings also open up opportunities for further research using quantitative and longitudinal approaches to understand the long-term impact of the digital ecosystem on the psychological well-being of adolescents. With proper management, digital transformation can be directed as an opportunity to enhance the mental health of future generations.
