Abstract

Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency that requires immediate intervention to improve the victim’s chances of survival. Community knowledge of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an important aspect of providing initial assistance before healthcare professionals arrive. A preliminary survey conducted in Ledug Village, RT 5/RW 5, showed that community members still had limited understanding of cardiac arrest management and the steps involved in performing CPR. This Community Service activity aimed to improve community knowledge of CPR as a first-aid measure for cardiac arrest. The activity was conducted on August 22, 2026, in Ledug Village, Kembaran District, Banyumas Regency. The target participants were community members aged 18–65 years. The activity consisted of a pre-test, CPR education delivered through lectures supported by leaflets and videos, followed by a post-test. The evaluation instrument was a 15-item questionnaire. Although the initial target was 30 participants, 25 attended and completed the entire activity. The results showed that the mean knowledge score increased from 63.32 on the pre-test to 86.32 on the post-test, representing an increase of 23.00 points. Based on knowledge categories, the number of participants with good knowledge increased from 5 participants (20.0%) to 20 participants (80.0%), while the number of participants with poor knowledge decreased from 10 participants (40.0%) to none (0.0%). Therefore, CPR education was associated with an improvement in community knowledge regarding CPR. Future activities are recommended to include demonstrations and hands-on practice using manikins, as well as skills assessment, to enable a more comprehensive evaluation of the community’s ability to perform CPR.
