Abstract

Palm Beach, Singkawang is one of the prominent coastal tourism destinations in West Kalimantan Province. With its strategic location and gently sloping beach, the area has considerable potential for development as a recreational facility such as a Beach Club. However, the development of the area is currently constrained by the limited availability of supporting facilities, particularly those for entertainment, culinary activities, and relaxation. Therefore, the provision of new facilities is considered necessary to complement and enhance the visitor experience and the attractiveness of the destination. To address these challenges, this final project proposes the design of a Beach Club as an integrated recreational center. The design process began with a literature review, site analysis, field observation, interviews with local residents and tourism managers, and precedent studies. The design adopts a Tropical Architecture approach by considering the characteristics of the coastal area, climate, beach views, solar and wind orientation, and user activity requirements. The design concept is implemented through building orientation toward the sea, functional mass separation, spatial zoning based on levels of access, pedestrian circulation connecting the facilities, and building forms inspired by marine organisms. The Tropical Architecture approach is expressed through natural ventilation and lighting, building openings, wide roof overhangs, and the use of materials such as wood shingles, bamboo, and concrete. Functionally, the design integrates recreational, entertainment, culinary, and relaxation facilities, including a Beach Club, restaurant, lounge, swimming pool, spa, karaoke, billiards, and open spaces connected to the coastal area. The design is expected to serve as a functional recreational facility that responds to the characteristics of the coastal environment while supporting tourism development in Singkawang City.
