Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of students' adaptation in learning dance at Srikandi Kembar Dance Studio, Demak Regency, and to identify the factors that support and hinder the adaptation process. This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The research subjects consisted of the dance instructor and students at Srikandi Kembar Dance Studio, Demak Regency. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the students' adaptation process takes place through adjustment to the studio environment, learning materials, the instructor's teaching methods, and interactions with fellow students. Each student demonstrates a different level of adaptability; some are able to participate in the learning process quickly, while others require more time to understand dance movements, build self-confidence, and adjust to the training rules. Supporting factors include students' motivation and interest, the role of the instructor, a supportive learning environment, peer support, and parental support. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors include shyness and lack of self-confidence, difficulties in mastering dance movements, differences in ability compared to senior members, lack of prior dance experience, and falling behind in learning materials. The findings suggest that the adaptation process is a crucial aspect of successful dance learning in the dance studio, as it influences students' participation and the development of their skills throughout the training process.
