Abstract

Biodegradable spoons are environmentally friendly products that have main ingredients including sago starch, seaweed pulp, and glycerol. This study aims to determine the effect of different molding load treatments and drying time on the characteristics of the spoons produced and determine the best treatment of all samples made. This study used a two-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD), namely variations in molding load and drying time. The results showed a significant effect between molding load and drying time on the level of brightness, density, moisture content, solubility, and biodegradability of the spoon. The average values of length, width, and thickness of the spoons were much greater than the control spoons. The brightness level of the spoons ranged from 69.63 to 81.30. The highest spoon density was 1.20 g/cm3. The moisture content of the spoons ranged from 3.49% to 1.31%. The addition of molding load and drying time also had an effect in reducing the solubility and biodegradability of the spoons, which ranged from 26.16% to 10.77%. The best treatment was carried out by the multiple attribute which was found in the sample treated with a molding load of 10 kg and a drying time of 30 minutes.
