Abstract

Anemia remains a prominent nutritional problem among adolescent girls in Indonesia. A preliminary study at State Junior High School 29 Makassar (n = 80) found that 93.8% of students had poor knowledge about iron tablets and 17.5% were non-adherent to iron tablet consumption, with a significant relationship between knowledge and adherence (p = 0.000). This community service activity aimed to improve knowledge and adherence to iron tablet (TTD) consumption through school-based education and assistance. Methods included interactive lectures, demonstration of correct TTD consumption, formation of "Duta Remaja Sehat" peer cadres, weekly control cards, and four weeks of assistance. Results showed knowledge scores increased from a mean pre-test of 54.6 to 83.8 post-test, with participants in the good category rising from 6.3% to 87.5%; TTD adherence increased from 82.5% to 93.8%. Ten peer cadres were formed, and educational media were handed over for program sustainability. This activity demonstrates that school-based education combined with peer assistance and monitoring cards effectively improves adolescent girls' knowledge and adherence in anemia prevention.
