Abstract

The seismic performance of high-rise reinforced concrete buildings is strongly influenced by the configuration of their lateral force-resisting system. This study evaluates a 15-story reinforced concrete hotel building by comparing five structural configurations: an existing moment-resisting frame, bearing wall, core wall, perimeter shear wall, and combined wall systems. Three-dimensional structural models were developed in SAP2000 and analyzed using Response Spectrum Analysis according to SNI 1726:2019 for Site Class SD and Seismic Design Category D, while reinforced concrete members were designed based on SNI 2847:2019. Structural performance was evaluated using the fundamental natural period, modal mass participation, inter-story drift, story displacement, and dual-system behavior. All modified configurations reduced the natural period, indicating greater structural stiffness than the existing model. The combined wall system exhibited the most balanced seismic performance by satisfying inter-story drift limits in both principal directions while distributing lateral base shear between the moment-resisting frame and shear walls at 60.15%/39.85% in the X-direction and 74.88%/25.12% in the Y-direction. These findings demonstrate that an appropriate shear wall configuration significantly improves the seismic performance of reinforced concrete buildings in seismic regions.
