Abstract

This study aims to determine the evacuation time required for people inside Nongko Market to leave the building and reach the designated assembly point in the event of a fire. The study employed a Research and Development (RD) approach combined with descriptive analysis and developed an evacuation simulation using the AnyLogic Pedestrian Library. Data were collected through field observations, interviews, literature reviews, market profile documents, and relevant regulations and safety standards. Observation and interview data were used to describe existing building conditions, daily activity patterns, and the number of market users, particularly during periods of high visitor density. The simulation was developed to represent the actual conditions of Nongko Market using four occupancy scenarios: 10%, 25%, 50%, and 100%. In the simulation model, market users were represented as agents entering through five main entrances and moving according to activity patterns identified through field observations. Based on the Emergency Response Planning (ERP) calculation, the estimated evacuation time was approximately 11 minutes. However, the simulation results showed that the 25% occupancy scenario produced the most efficient evacuation time, requiring 4 minutes and 20 seconds. These findings demonstrate that the AnyLogic-based simulation can effectively represent user movement, identify potential congestion along evacuation routes, and evaluate evacuation performance under different occupancy conditions. The developed simulation model can support evacuation route planning, emergency preparedness, and fire safety management at Nongko Market. Furthermore, the results provide a basis for evaluating evacuation strategies and improving the readiness of market users and management to respond effectively to potential fire emergencies
