Abstract

Hospital environmental health is essential for infection prevention, patient safety, and occupational protection, particularly in maternity and children’s hospitals. This study assessed environmental health conditions at RSIA Aisyiyah Samarinda based on the environmental health requirements specified in Indonesian Minister of Health Regulation No. 7 of 2019. A cross-sectional observational assessment was conducted on April 23, 2026, using direct observation and a standardized environmental health inspection instrument. Eight domains were assessed: water health, air health, ready-to-eat food safety, buildings and facilities, vector and disease-carrying animal control, waste management, linen management, and environmental health management. The assessment produced a composite score of 8,420, indicating that the hospital met the applicable environmental health requirements. Water health, air health, ready-to-eat food safety, vector control, waste management, and environmental health management were classified as Very Good, while linen management was classified as Good. A disability-accessible toilet was unavailable, and inconsistent use of complete personal protective equipment was observed among waste-handling personnel. Overall, the hospital met the applicable environmental health requirements, but targeted corrective actions are needed to address identified infrastructure and occupational-safety gaps.
