Abstract

This study examines the transformation of Islamic educational thought in pesantren amid the challenges of digital disruption and globalization, with a particular focus on the role of tradition as a foundation for educational renewal. The research aims to analyze how pesantren maintain their traditional values while adapting to contemporary technological and global developments. Using a qualitative library research approach, data were collected from scholarly articles, books, policy documents, and previous studies related to Islamic education, pesantren traditions, and digital transformation. The findings reveal that pesantren have not abandoned their traditional educational heritage (turats), but rather have reinterpreted and integrated it into modern educational practices through digital literacy, technology-assisted learning, and the development of global competencies. This transformation reflects a dynamic dialectic between continuity and change, where traditional values such as religious moderation, moral cultivation, and scholarly authority remain central while being contextualized within contemporary realities. The study concludes that the sustainability of pesantren in the digital era depends on their ability to preserve their intellectual and cultural traditions while embracing innovation as a strategic response to globalization. This adaptive model offers a new paradigm for strengthening Islamic education without losing its authentic identity.
