Abstract

This study aims to analyze community perceptions of traditional healers (dukun) as an alternativeform of treatment. Despite the advancements in modern medicine, traditional healing practicescontinue to persist and are still utilized by segments of the local population. This qualitative studyemploys a case study approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews and participatoryobservation. The findings reveal that belief in spiritual elements, cultural factors, affordability, andlimited access to formal healthcare services are the primary reasons for the community's relianceon traditional healers. Conversely, skepticism is emerging among community members withgreater exposure to formal education and modern health information. Traditional healing faceschallenges such as increasing healthcare regulation and the influence of evidence-based medicalparadigms. Nevertheless, it continues to adapt by incorporating digital media to reach a broaderaudience. As such, traditional healing practices stand at the crossroads of tradition and modernity, with their sustainability largely shaped by social, economic, and technological developments.
