Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of foreign capital flows on Indonesia's international trade performance during 2024–2026, particularly amid external pressures such as United States' reciprocal tariff policy and global financial market uncertainty. The method employed is a library research with a descriptive-qualitative approach, utilizing official secondary data from Bank Indonesia, Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the Ministry of Trade, the International Monetary Fund, and accredited national and international journals published between 2023 and 2026. The findings show that foreign capital flows affect Indonesia's international trade through three main channels: strengthening production capacity and export market access through direct investment, exerting pressure on the rupiah exchange rate through portfolio investment reversals, and financing the current account deficit through surpluses in the capital and financial account. Indonesia's goods trade balance continued to record a surplus for 68 consecutive months throughout 2025, amounting to USD41.05 billion, yet the overall balance of payments recorded a deficit due to substantial capital outflows in the second and third quarters of 2025. The study concludes that the stability of foreign capital flows is an important prerequisite for the sustainability of Indonesia's international trade performance, requiring a monetary-fiscal policy mix that maintains investment attractiveness while preserving national export competitiveness.
