Abstract

The occurrence of anemia among adolescent girls is closely associated with low, irregular, or inadequate consumption of Iron Supplement Tablets (IST) due to a lack of knowledge about their proper use. The use of audiovisual media, which may present health information in a visual, interactive, and readily comprehensible way, is one potential strategy to solve this problem. This study aimed to determine the effect of audiovisual media-based education on the behavior of Iron Supplement Tablet (IST) consumption among adolescent girls at SMAN 2 Kalianda, South Lampung Regency. This study used a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design as part of a pre-experimental methodology. A sample of 35 participants was chosen as a single group without a control group, and the population comprised 288 female students in the tenth grade at SMAN 2 Kalianda, South Lampung Regency. A behavioral questionnaire was used to gather data, and the paired t-test was used for analysis. The findings demonstrated that teenage females had comparatively low levels of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors about IST consumption prior to the intervention. Significant gains were seen in all three areas after audiovisual media-based instruction, as evidenced by a higher percentage of respondents in the good group. According to statistical analysis, among teenage girls at SMAN 2 Kalianda, audiovisual education significantly improved knowledge (p < 0.001), attitudes (p < 0.001), and IST consuming patterns (p < 0.001). It is advised that schools regularly use audiovisual materials for health education, especially in programs aimed at promoting the health of teenage girls.
