Abstract

One of the main causes of mortality is hypertension, a degenerative illness. The number of hypertension cases at the Braja Harjosari Community Health Center increased from 980 in 2023 to 2,460 in 2025. One of the biggest challenges is low adherence to the CERDIK behaviors, which include Get health checkups, Avoid cigarette smoke, Stay active, Eat a balanced diet, Get adequate rest, Manage stress. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of audiovisual media in improving CERDIK behaviors among pre-elderly patients with hypertension at the Braja Harjosari Community Health Center in 2026. Purposive sampling was utilized to select 40 participants (20 in the audiovisual intervention group and 20 in the leaflet control group) for a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design. The Shapiro-Wilk test revealed that the composite scores from 15 dichotomous (Yes/No) questions were regularly distributed (p > 0.05), hence parametric techniques were used to analyze them. Both paired and independent t-tests were used in the investigation. Both the audiovisual group (p < 0.001) and the control group (p < 0.001) had significantly different CERDIK behavior before and after the intervention. With a substantial impact size (Cohen's d = 1.920), a between-group test verified that audiovisual media outperformed leaflets (p = 0.010; Mean Difference = 1.650). It is recommended that the Braja Harjosari Community Health Center incorporate audiovisual materials into regular instruction to help individuals with hypertension manage their condition better.
