Abstract

Background: This study examines intercultural communication theory in relation to Islamic da‘wah within the context of multicultural societies. Indonesia, as a heterogeneous nation characterized by ethnic, religious, linguistic, and cultural diversity, presents complex communication dynamics that may generate barriers, misperceptions, and conflicts.Aims: Culture functions as a framework that shapes how individuals communicate, while Islamic da‘wah is understood as a communicative process that appeals to human nature through wisdom and compassion. Methods: This theoretical analysis highlights the concepts of assimilation, acculturation, adaptation, and social solidarity as key foundations for understanding cross-cultural interaction. Results: Islamic da‘wah is positioned as a communicative medium capable of bridging differences, reducing uncertainty, and strengthening social solidarity. Conclusion: By integrating perspectives from communication studies, anthropology, and Islamic da‘wah, this study is expected to contribute both theoretically and practically to the development of intercultural communication in plural societies, as well as to enrich academic discourse on the relationship between religion, culture, and communication
